UAE graduates can now have their degrees recognized instantly - no application needed

Grade 12 students finishing their degrees at one of 38 UAE universities will no longer need to submit a separate application to have their qualification officially recognised. The process now happens automatically — the moment a student graduates, their degree is verified and ready to use for job applications, postgraduate admissions, or professional licensing.

The UAE Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research announced the expansion of its automatic degree recognition scheme, adding five new institutions to bring the total to 38. The move was reported by both Gulf News and Khaleej Times and forms part of the government's wider "Zero Government Bureaucracy" programme.

A long-standing frustration, now removed

Until now, even graduates from well-established, fully accredited UAE universities had to go through a separate recognition process after finishing their studies. That meant submitting documents, waiting for approval, and in some cases delaying job applications or university enrolments while the paperwork was processed.

The new system eliminates that step entirely for graduates of covered institutions. Through a real-time digital link between universities and the Ministry, recognition is triggered automatically at the point of graduation. A QR code is issued alongside the degree, providing instant, verifiable confirmation of the qualification's official status — something employers, postgraduate programmes, and licensing authorities can check on the spot.

What this means for students

The practical benefit is straightforward: students can move directly from graduation into the next stage of their lives without administrative delays. For those holding conditional offers from postgraduate programmes, or who are ready to start a job, the removal of the waiting period is meaningful.

The Ministry has confirmed that further universities will be added to the scheme over time, with the intention of eventually covering all accredited institutions operating in the UAE.

Which universities are covered

The 38 institutions currently included in the automatic recognition scheme are: UAE University, Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology, University of Sharjah, American University of Sharjah, Khalifa University, Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences, Abu Dhabi University, Ajman University, Al Ain University, University of Wollongong in Dubai, Liwa University, Canadian University Dubai, Gulf Medical University, City University Ajman, American University in Dubai, Al Qasimia University, Al Wasl University, Amity University Dubai, American University of Ras Al Khaimah, University of Dubai, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Rabdan Academy, Abu Dhabi School of Management, Jumeira University, Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation, Heriot-Watt University Dubai, American University in the Emirates, Abu Dhabi Polytechnic, RAK Medical and Health Sciences University, Mohamed bin Zayed University for Humanities, Fatima College of Health Sciences, The British University in Dubai, University of Fujairah, Dubai Medical University, Sharjah Education Academy, Umm Al Quwain University, and Emirates Aviation University.

Where to find more information

Students and families with questions about how the recognition process works, or whether a specific institution is covered, are encouraged to check directly with their university or visit the Ministry of Higher Education's official channels. Schools and universities remain the primary point of contact for queries about individual qualifications and how they will be processed under the new system.

The expansion is part of a broader push by the UAE to digitize government services and reduce administrative friction across the education sector — ensuring that students spend less time on paperwork and more time putting their qualifications to use.
